We arrived in Rome -Fiumicino Airport at 8:30am on Tuesday (Rome Time). Customs went smoothly and baggage was fine. Every person in the group got their luggage (Nothing lost!), and we made our way to the lobby to wait for everyone else to arrive. Luca , the director of the Siena program, came to greet us. He waited with us and helped us to get ahold of our bus driver. After waiting quite a while, we loaded in and drove to the hotel
Our hotel is pretty great. Think Lizzy McGuire movie style and you’re pretty close. Teeny tiny elevator, room on the sixth floor and a fantastic balcony with a view of Saint Peter’s Basilica. After we unpacked a bit we met up and went to lunch. Annie knew about a reputed pizzeria, so we went there for a delicious lunch. Then we hiked the hills around our hotel looking for the entrance to The Vatican. After much confusion and twisting road, we found our way to St. Peter’s Square.
From there we meandered to the Castel d’ San Angelo across the Tiber River and through some tiny one way streets that were worthy of any movie.
Sharissa, Libby, and I stopped in a shop for some gelato. Sharissa and I got stratchatella flavor. (somewhat like cookies ‘n cream) as per Beatrice’s suggestion. It was delicious, but when we emerged from the shop everyone had disappeared. After a bit more wandering we found the at the Piazza Nuova. After admiring the fountain there for a little while, Dr. Call said “okay, meet back at the hotel for dinner at 7” And we were free to do as we pleased.
A girl with big dreams, crazy ideas, and plans to make it all happen.
